"The bible always shows women as the downfall of men," says Charlemagne the God today on The Breakfast Club to their guest, pastor A.R. Bernard, as they discussed the relationship between Adam and Eve. A.R. Bernard begins to explain that because Adam didn't take the leadership role, Eve was forced to take that power and that's why she ate the apple and he followed along. He says, "Men has to set the example, that's leadership...a woman becomes compelled to become the dominate force in a relationship when a man doesn't..." he then goes on to explain that, that is not a woman's role. Insert the perplexed emoji here!!! I don't often agree with Charlemagne but this time I do.
To say that a woman can only lead when her man is not is absurd thinking. To think that a man is weak because he follows his woman's path is even more absurd. Neither a man nor woman should be the leaders of the relationship but equal partners to one another. It is 2016 and yet it seems to me that people still don't know that gender, like race, is a social construct and does not exist. There is no longer a man's place and a woman's place in a relationship and gender roles should definitely go out the window once you let love in. Men shouldn't have to feel less of a man if women have a voice in the relationship, it should only make that relationship stronger. When we listen to the bible, a book re-written over many times by a man, we see that it only comes from a male perspective. Why aren't there any scriptures written by women in the bible? In fact, this whole notion that a man created the whole world makes no sense since it is women and only women who hold the power to give birth, so one would surmise this world was birthed by a woman.
Not only the bible, but most religions tend to show that men are the leaders and a woman's place is to stand way behind that man otherwise the woman is not doing "her job." When women want to be strong and assertive, religion tells us to be weak and submissive. Why does a woman's strength have to make men feel weak? Shouldn't a strong man want a strong woman to stand beside them? This is one of the many problem woman face today and is the reason why we do not see enough women in leadership roles and when they are, they are not taken seriously.
Many feminist have lost faith in the bible and religion and thus have had to find their strength from within, turning toward spirituality and a universe much bigger than any God. I am very spiritual and not religious because religion tells us who we should be while spirituality forces us to discover who we are. I rather discover who I am as an individual than to be defined by a man. This is not man hating, this is simply called loving oneself. A strong man knows that strong women aren't a nuisance but a blessing.
